During Yucera’s visit to a rural primary school in Guizhou, we shared a special oral health lesson with the children. Together, we explored the magical world inside our mouths and learned how to become little heroes who protect our teeth every day.

Many children guessed arms, heads, or bones — but the answer surprised everyone:

It’s our teeth!

Our tiny teeth work hard every day. They help us:

That’s why taking care of our teeth is such an important mission!

How Many Teeth Do We Have?

Children have a special set of teeth called baby teeth, also known as milk teeth.

Most children have 20 baby teeth, while adults usually grow 28–32 permanent teeth.

Growing up means welcoming new teeth! When baby teeth become loose and fall out, stronger adult teeth are getting ready to say:

“Hello! I’m here to help you smile for life!”

Uh-oh! Can Teeth Get Sick? 😮

Yes, they can!

Sometimes teeth hurt when eating ice cream or chewing food. That may mean our teeth need help.

One common tooth troublemaker is:

The Tiny Sugar Monsters — Cavities!

Candy, cakes, chocolate, soda, and ice cream may taste amazing…

But guess what?

Little bacteria in our mouths love sugary snacks too!

When sugar stays on teeth too long, bacteria throw a “party” and begin attacking our teeth, making tiny holes called cavities.

But don’t worry — we can defeat them!
